Effect of pongamia biodiesel on emission and combustion characteristics of DI compression ignition engine

The performance, emission and combustion characteristics of biodiesel derived from pongamia oil and its blends are compared with the conventional diesel fuel. Results are summarized as follows: diesel engine can perform satisfactorily with pongamia oil methyl esters and their blends without any engine modifications. SFC increases with increase in percentage of biodiesel in the biodiesel blends because of the lower heating value of biodiesel.
